Not a complete shutdown

UPS systems (Uninterruptible Power Supply) are often the forgotten piece of equipment. Despite being central to business continuity, once a UPS is installed, it is almost too easy to overlook it. Having seen this happen too many times, Power Control Ltd wants to remind businesses that whilst a facility may be shutdown, the UPS has not.

In fact, in many circumstances, a backup power solution, UPS may be supporting a central server, should this fail, any remote working would suffer, leading to even more downtime and lost revenue. Something businesses can ill afford.

With so many organisations on a hiatus and with many others being forced to close, it is hoped that consideration is being given to the UPS system that is running 24/7. Owners of all business sizes need to be mindful of the very critical role that backup power solutions play and the essential need for them to still be maintained.

All key UPS components require servicing, from the UPS batteries through to capacitors, fans and bypass panels. Maintenance is not optional, it is crucial. Another fundamental factor that cannot be forgotten is the environment in which the UPS solution is situated. Backup power systems need to be housed in well ventilated rooms to ensure that the batteries do not overheat, which could cause swelling, leaks and ultimately failure of the UPS. The atmosphere needs to be clean to safeguard against any dust and other foreign particles disturbing the UPS mechanisms.

The government’s advice for social distancing has deterred people from carrying out routine UPS maintenance but this could have damaging operational and financial consequences. Power Control would like to reassure its clients that its engineers are taking all necessary safety precautions and strongly advises that any scheduled UPS servicing is undertaken where it is reasonable to do so.

Power Control has its own team of nationwide engineers, trained across all UPS brand and able to provide complete service and maintenance for these and ancillaries including batteries and electrical installations. The company works with organisations across the country and supplies, installs, commissions and maintains backup power solutions for all applications. For more information please visit www.powercontrol.co.uk, email info@powercontrol.co.uk or call the office on 01246 431431
